Take action @Work

Think of how much time you spend at your job. And how many greenhouse gasses you create while working and getting to work.

Now, think of how much you could help the planet by making a few changes during your workday.

It may seem small, but altering your habits during the work week - both on the job and during your commute - even a little bit will add up day after day.

As well, when you share your green tips with coworkers and colleagues, the impact on the planet multiplies.

If you've already made planet-friendly changes at home, thinking about greenhouse gas emissions while you work should be a snap.

And even if you work part time, work from home, or have a unique job that doesn't use energy in traditional ways, you can still make the Living Planet Community an important part of your work life.

While some workplace actions require cooperation from your boss or company owners, most of them you can do on your own without requiring any new workplace policies. However, some of the changes you'll be making will save the company money - so feel free to share your ideas and their benefits.

When you make your workplace part of your Living Planet Community, you can feel good about making a living and helping the planet at the same time.

WWF-Canada is working to build a culture of conservation among Canadian businesses. As part of this effort, WWF-Canada, with the support of the Ontario Power Authority, is piloting a 16-month project called The Living Planet @ Work. This project combines the Living Planet Community web tool with the use of employee motivation and recognition techniques in order to drive electricity savings in the workplace and engage employees on critical and meaningful conservation issues. The learnings from this project will be used to develop a turnkey employee engagement tool that can be replicated across the commercial office sector.
