Welcome to our new members! We want to thank you for joining our Living Planet Community group and putting our planet first, one action at a time. For now and for future generations.
A new bed was delivered to our home, wrapped in those giant, thick "covers" of plastic.
Instead of them ending up in the landfill........forever......... they will forever be my convertible green house every Spring when it's tomato-planting time.
Take 4 wooden pallets and lean them up against the north side of your house after you have planted your tomatoes. Drape the mattress packaging over the pallets and tuck in on top and bottom. No nails, no ties!
Water plants everyday as usual. The plastic keeps the plants toasty warm, just the way they like it. Once you are sure the weather is going to be warm, remove the plastic and fold up for next year. It won't rot away for years and years and years!

When we built our log home, we incorporated passive solar features. We do not have a central heating or cooling system. Code required that we have an automatic system, so we installed cheap electric baseboard heater, which we have never even turned on. We use our energy efficient wood stove for heat, but typically we only augment the temperature of our home from about Nov. 1 - Feb. 28. Usually we do not have to burn more than a cord of wood for the entire winter. We usually wear an extra layer in winter (sweater or sweatshirt) and maintain a temp of closer to 60 degrees instead of 72 plus. We have also noticed that we have less down time from colds and other illnesses by not keeping our house at so high a temperature.
