Earth Hour is coming up on March 27 at 8:30 p.m. local time. It's a chance to show political leaders that millions of people are serious about addressing climate change, but it's also a time for you and your family to make a difference in your daily lives. Lighting consumes about 10 per cent of the power in your home. And standard light bulbs are not energy efficient: they give off 90 per cent of their energy as heat. CFL bulbs are 75 per cent more efficient. They cost more, but last eight times as long - they can run for five to six years. Replacing a 100-watt bulb with a 25-watt CFL will save you $30 over the life of the CFL, and each bulb reduces greenhouse gas emissions by about 15 kilograms per year.
